Statement from Ali Kantor, Director of Athletics, Simmons University

To our Simmons Sharks,

Today, Simmons University announced its Fall 2020 plans in a campus-wide email from President Lynn Perry Wooten.

In keeping with Simmons University's top priority, providing a safe and healthy environment for all students, faculty, staff, and the community, the decision was made to place all sports on hold until January 2021. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is considering placing a hold on sports until January 2021.

The decision was a difficult one. We recognize how disappointing this is and the impact this has on all of you. We know how your athletic participation is such an important component of your educational experience — and how time spent competing, training alongside your teammates and coaches is so integral to your lives. I share in your disappointment as do all of our coaches and Athletics staff. We know this is especially hard news to hear for our senior student athletes.

While we know your season will not look the way we planned, the Athletics Department is committed to finding ways to connect you with each other and with your coaches virtually, as many of you have done these last few months. Some activities that you can look forward to include:

  • Virtual training sessions
  • Game film breakdown and evaluation
  • Team meetings and team dynamics activities
  • Virtual competitions
  • Leadership development seminars

I hope we will all be together in the spring. In the meantime, thank you for your resilience, commitment and dedication to your teams and to Simmons Athletics.
