NEW LONDON, N.H. – Sophomore forwards Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) and Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) each scored a goal to lead the Simmons College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over host Colby-Sawyer College on Veitch Turf Field this afternoon in New London, N.H. The Sharks have won four of their last five and improve to 9-3 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 6-6.
Simmons held a commanding 15-6 shot advantage and limited Colby-Sawyer to just three shots in each half of play.
The Sharks got on the board when Saltamartini sent a thru ball inside the circle to Rondeau, who found the back of the cage at 10:47 of the first half for a 1-0 edge.
Simmons padded its lead with an additional marker when Saltamartini weaved in and out of defenders to pot her team-leading 11th goal of the season with 21:24 left in the contest.
First year forward Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H) led the Chargers' offense with three shots on the afternoon.
Junior keeper Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) stopped both shots that she faced to earn her fifth shutout of the season and 11th of her career for the Sharks. First year midfielder Analise Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) also contributed in the Simmons defensive zone with a defensive save. Senior goalie Jodi Dumayne (Clar emont, N.H.) made 10 saves for Colby-Sawyer.
The Sharks return to action on Thursday, October 9 when they travel to South Hadley, Mass. to take on Mount Holyoke College at 7:00 p.m., while the Chargers next play on October 9 when they head to Castleton, Vt. for a 7:00 p.m. match with Castleton State College.
