DANBURY, Conn. - Simmons College field hockey player, Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of November 2-8, it was announced by the ECAC today. It's the second time this season that she has earned a Player of the Week accolade. Saltamartini was also named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of August 31 to September 6.
The sophomore tallied a pair of goals and added an assist for five points in two matches. All of the forward's points came in GNAC Tournament play with Saltamartini scoring a pair of markers, including the game-winner in a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales University on November 4 in the GNAC Tournament Semifinals. The Pinkerton Academy product capped the week with an assist on the Sharks' lone goal of a 1-0 win to capture the GNAC Championship on November 7. She earned GNAC All-Tournament Team recognition for her effort.
The honor comes during a week in which the second-year standout was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Year as well as a First Team All-Conference selection. She is tied for the league lead with 17 goals, while ranking third with 37 points, including three assists. Her goal and point season totals rank as the second-most in program history. The forward has made her scores count, racking up a league-high five game-winning markers. Saltamartini has been among the most consistent point scorers in the nation, notching at least one point in 14 of 17 matches, while ranking 24th in all of NCAA III with 1.00 goals per game. The second-year player has registered multiple goals on four occasions.
In just two seasons, Saltamartini has already tallied 71 career points and 32 goals to place her third all-time at Simmons in both categories. She has started 26 of 35 career matches, while striking for 10 game-winning goals.
