WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University field hockey player Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week of September 23-29, it was announced today by the league.
Trull becomes the second Shark this season to earn top weekly player honors, joining sophomore Emily Plummer (San Diego, Calif.), who was named for the week of September 2-8. They become the first Simmons teammates to earn the honor in the same season since Sammy Rondeau (2014-17) and Julie Saltamartini (2014-17) were both tabbed during the 2017 campaign.
Trull was an offensive threat in both matches for the Sharks last week, racking up seven points on three goals and an assist. The forward collected three points with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory at Becker College on September 24 and capped the week with both regulation goals in a 3-2 double-overtime victory at Regis College (Mass.) on September 28.
The Lowell High School graduate has started all 10 matches for Simmons and leads the squad with 13 points and six goals, while ranking fourth among league leaders in goals and sixth in points. Trull also stands eighth in the GNAC with a game-winning goal. The Exercise Science major has been an integral part of the Sharks success this season, registering at least one point in four of the team's five victories, including a pair of goals on two occasions.
For her career, Trull has started 62 of 67 matches that she's appeared in and has 47 points on 18 goals and 11 assists. The four-year standout has four game-winning scores during her tenure and her point and goal totals this season match her career bests established in the 2016 season.
Simmons is currently 5-5 on the season, including 2-1 in conference play and returns to action on Tuesday, October 1 when it heads to Northampton, Mass. to take on Smith College at 6:00 p.m.
