Sharks Defeated by Hawks, 75-49

Simmons Basketball was defeated by non-conference visitor Roger Williams University, 75-49, on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-4 on the season, while the Hawks advance to 6-2 overall.

The Sharks struggled with momentum early on in the first half, allowing Roger Williams to pull away to a 32-22 lead at halftime. The Hawks did not allow Simmons to get close enough for a comeback in the second half, outscoring the hosts 43-27 for a final score of 75-49 at the buzzer.

Roger Williams pulled from their deep roster, with five athletes scoring in the double-digits. Kaitlyn Bovee hit a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards, followed by 12 points from Elizabeth Kilzi, 11 points from Ryan Weeks, and 10 points apiece from Alexandria Lanieri and Carly Spagnola.

Simmons was lead by sophomore Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) with 13 points, freshman Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) with 9 points, and sophomore Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.) with eight points and four rebounds.

The Sharks are set to ring in the new year when they compete in the Key Largo Classic in Florida on January 1, 2011.
