BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons College senior Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.), junior Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomores Hannah Dike (Leominster, Mass.), Ally Fecteau (Burlington, Conn.), Peizhu Pam Qian (Beijing, China/Developing Virtue Secondary Girls School (Calif.)), and Rebecca Ramsey (Jefferson, Mass.) were named to the 2018 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete Team, it was announced by the organization.
CRCA National Scholar-Athletes are determined by the following criteria: The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution and was in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, in addition to rowing in their institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event, while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for their career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
Bennett earns the honor for the third straight year, while Summers earns the selection for the second straight season. Dike, Fecteau, Qian and Ramsey were all respectively tabbed in their first year of eligibility for the Sharks.
The six have been highly decorated rowers for their academic prowess this season with each being named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference All-Academic All-Conference Team in April as well as the National Invitational Rowing Championship All-Academic Team in addition to their CRCA accolade.
Simmons Crew concluded its season with a second place finish by the First Varsity Eight in the NIRC Third Final on May 11, while the Second Varsity Eight placed fifth in the Third Final.
