Sharks Lacrosse Gets Stronger in 18-11 Loss to Lasell

Simmons Lacrosse showed promise on Friday in their 18-11 loss to Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Lasell College. The Sharks are now 0-2 for the season.

Sophomore Natalie Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) scored four goals for the Sharks, while freshmen Lee Sutherland (Tuftonbro, N.H.) and Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) and senior Natalie West (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored two each. Senior Mariel Friedman (Cincinatti, Ohio) completed the scoring with one goal, bringing the Sharks total to 11 points.

The Sharks and the Lazers ended the first half tied at 7-7, but were unable to keep up in the second half after making some key defensive blunders.

"We lost the game in the second half with some defensive mistakes--things we can easily fix with focus and drive," said Head Coach Kate Leonard. "Lasell is an aggressive and passionate team and I am proud of how we fought back, making changes and hustling for the entire game.

"Defensively, Heather Lowe (Woolwich, Maine) came up with a few key interceptions and Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) made several huge saves in goal to really keep us in the game," said Leonard.

Weaver made 15 saves for the Sharks in just her second time out on the lacrosse field as goalkeeper, and was instrumental to Simmons' strong first half.

Simmons Lacrosse will play their next match against Norwich University at home on Tuesday, March 24 at 7:00pm.
