Cross Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalie of the Week for the week of March 12-18, it was announced today by the league.

The rookie becomes the first Goalie of the Week honoree for the Sharks since 2016 when Kenzie Rogers earned the honor and is the second lacrosse player this season to be recognized by the GNAC. Senior Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) was tabbed the Player of the Week for the week of February 26 to March 4.

In Simmons' only match of the week, Cross made five saves to go with a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover in 60 minutes of action to earn a victory in the team's 16-8 win over host New England College on March 15.

For the season, the first year owns a 10.06 goals against average to rank third among GNAC goaltending leaders and first for rookie goalies this season. The Beverly High School graduate has appeared in three matches, while starting each of the last two contests. Cross has recorded 12 saves to post a .316 save percentage in 155 minutes of action and has put together a 2-0 win-loss mark.

The Sharks are currently 4-1 on the season for their best season start since 2013 when they began the campaign with a 7-1 record. Simmons will be in action again on Tuesday, March 20 when it heads to Standish, Maine to open the conference slate vs. host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at 4:00 p.m. in a re-match of last year's GNAC semifinals dual.
