BOSTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Allison Bondi (Macomb, Mich.) netted her first Division III goal and junior keeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) made nine saves to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team in a 1-1 tie with visiting Lesley University this afternoon on Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are now 0-1-1 on the season, while the Lynx are now 1-0-1.
Lesley owned a 25-15 shot advantage, including 6-0 in the overtime periods, while holding an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Simmons was 78 seconds away from its first shutout victory of the season when Lynx sophomore forward Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) lifted a shot from 20 yards out that curled just inside the upper top corner of the right post to knot the contest at 1-1.
Bondi put the Sharks on the board at the 35:53 mark of the opening half when she fired a shot from 20 yards away that sailed over the outstretched fingers of the Lesley keeper.
The teams were tied when the clock hit zero at the end of regulation. The Lynx were unable to score with six shots in the extra periods, including four tries that were turned back by Halle.
Halle's save total is a career high, while junior goalie Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) came up with seven stops for Lesley.
Simmons returns to action on Thursday, September 8 when it heads to South Hadley, Mass. to take on Smith College at 4:00 p.m., while the Lynx hosts Dean College on September 7 at 8:00 p.m.
