BOSTON, Mass. – Following a scoreless first half, the Simmons College women's soccer team broke out for four goals in the second stanza to cruise past Suffolk University this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-5-1 on the season and 3-2-0 in conference play while the Rams drop to 4-5-0 and 2-3-0.

Junior forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) led the way for the Sharks with a goal and an assist, while Simmons outshot Suffolk 17-12 and held a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.

Junior forward Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) initiated the scoring, nearly 10 minutes into the second half, when she knocked home a through ball from classmate Liz Donovan (Nashua, N.H.). Donovan was able to spring Klane past the defense, allowing the forward to notch her third goal of the season and give the Sharks the lead.

The Sharks' lead was doubled when Gammon bent in a free kick into the near post from just outside the 18-yard box. Gammon played a part in the third goal scored by the Sharks, when she nudged the ball from just inside the box back to sophomore midfielder Lauren Brandau (Madison, Conn.), who was able to loft the ball over the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper. The score was her second of the season and bumped the home team's margin to make the score 3-0 at the 75:12 mark.

Simmons continued the pressure throughout the half and capitalized on a Suffolk miscue to make it 4-0. Donovan sent a free kick into the Rams' six-yard box that resulted in an own goal to pad the Sharks' lead.

Junior forwards Jennifer Martin (Higganum, Conn.) (six) and Alexandra Nagri (Salem, N.H.) (five) combined for 11 shots to lead the visitors' offensive effort.

Sharks' junior goalkeeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) earned her third shutout of the season and denied three shots while Rams' first year goalkeeper Julia Fieldsend (Exeter, N.H.) made her first collegiate start in net and stopped 11 shots.

Simmons is back in action on Wednesday, October 5 when it hosts GNAC opponent, Norwich University at Daly Field for a 7:00 p.m. match, while Suffolk will host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at the same date and time.
