BOSTON, Mass. – Seven different players scored for the Simmons University women's soccer team in a 10-1 victory over visiting Anna Maria College this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their sixth straight match to improve to 6-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-10-0 and 0-6-0.
Simmons dominated the match, owning a 33-3 shot advantage in addition to a 12-0 count on corner kicks.
Senior midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals for the Sharks for the third straight game to give her seven in her last four contests and added an assist, while first year midfielder Gabriella Cacia (Watertown, Mass.) notched the first multi-goal effort of her career with a pair of goals.
Sophomore forward Emma Trahant (Lynn, Mass.) registered her first collegiate goal when Forde sent a cross from the left side of the box to the right post, where the rookie buried a shot into the back of the net for the first marker of the second half at 53:50 and a 6-0 Simmons lead.
Junior midfielder Shannon Leblanc (Leominster, Mass.) put Anna Maria on the board when she lifted a free kick, from 25 yards out, over the outstretched fingertips of the Sharks keeper to cut the deficit to 6-1 in the 66th minute of play.
Sophomore forward Cierra Martin (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) opened the scoring for Simmons with the game's first goal and her fourth of the year in the 13th minute of the opening half. Senior Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) followed with her fourth marker of the season as well at 25:21, before Forde scored a pair of markers in a span of 50 seconds to give the home team a 4-0 lead. Cacia scored in the 39th minute to give the Sharks a 5-0 lead heading into the break. Cacia added her second goal of the night, and third of the campaign, late in the second half to increase the Simmons advantage to 8-1 at 71:22.
Senior midfielder Lauren Brandau (Madison, Conn.) recorded her career-best second assist when she set up sophomore Darschelle Desronvil (Brockton, Mass.) for her first tally of the season in the 84th minute for the Sharks. Junior forward Amber Nobbs (Granville, Mass.) capped the scoring with her second marker of the year coming with 4:08 remaining in the contest to give Simmons double-digit goals.
Senior keeper Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) earned the victory with a pair of saves for the Sharks, while first year goalie Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) stopped nine shots for the AMCATS.
Simmons returns to action on Saturday, September 29 when it takes on GNAC rival Regis (Mass.) in Weston, Mass. for a 1:30 start, while Anna Maria travels to Standish, Maine to play Saint Joseph's College on September 28 at 7:30 p.m.
