BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with visiting Colby-Sawyer College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this afternoon on Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks finish their season at 4-11-2 overall, including 4-7-1 in league play, while the Chargers are now 8-10-1 and 5-6-1 and await their playoff fate following the rest of the league action today.

Colby-Sawyer finished with a 16-13 shot advantage, including 6-2 in both overtimes combined, and held a 5-3 margin on corner kicks.

Simmons controlled play for much of the opening half and scored the lone goal of the session early in the match. Junior forward Cierra Martin (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) collected a loose ball on the left side of the box and fired a shot into the far right post for her fourth marker of the season at the 6:46 mark.

The Chargers put a pair of shots on net in the remainder of the half, including a header off the post from first year midfielder Sydney Jimmo (Shelburne, Vt.), but the Sharks defense kept them off the board and went into the intermission with a 1-0 home lead.

The Simmons defense kept Colby-Sawyer scoreless through the first third of the second stanza until Jimmo was taken down by a Shark defender inside the top of the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Jimmo stuck the attempt into the right side of the net for her team-high 12th goal of the season at 59:27 to pull the Chargers even at 1-1.

Following the penalty kick, the momentum began to swing to Colby-Sawyer, who outshot Simmons, 3-1, for the remainder of regulation.

The Sharks looked for a scoring opportunity in the final two minutes of the first overtime off a corner kick, but were denied. First year midfielder Izabella Warren (Hillsboro, N.H.) served a ball from the corner flag into the mix in front of the net, where senior midfielder Kristen Mihalich (East Rockaway, N.Y.) headed a shot on frame, but the Chargers keeper was there to stop it to keep the match tied.

Colby-Sawyer tried to take advantage of its own opportunity in the final seconds of the same overtime period, but first year Grace Walsh's (Marstons Mills, Mass.) apparent game-winning goal was called back on an offsides ruling.

Jimmo finished with four shots to pace the Chargers, while first year back Riley Wasiuk (Rutland, Mass.) put three shots on frame for Simmons.

First year keeper Melanie Colman (Holliston, Mass.) registered eight saves, including four in the second overtime period, for the Sharks, while senior goalie Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.) turned away six shots for Colby-Sawyer.
