Simpson Named GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 26 to November 1, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s swimmer Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Corvias Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of November 2-8, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second straight week that Simpson has earned the award.

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s swimmer Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Corvias Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of November 9-15, it was announced today by the league. Simpson earns the award for the third straight week. The Sharks have had a swimmer named the GNAC?s top rookie in each of the four reporting periods this season. First year Kerry Fleming (Northampton, Mass.) earned the honor for the week of October 19-25.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 26 to November 1, it was announced today by the league. 

The honor marks the second straight week that a Shark has been named the league's top weekly rookie after first year Kerry Fleming (Northampton, Mass.) was tabbed last week. 

Simpson won both of her individual events in a tri-meet sweep vs. Gordon College and Elms College on October 31 to tie as Simmons' highest scorer for the day with 18 points. The first year dominated the field in the 500-yard freestyle, winning by almost 12 seconds with a mark of 5:28.43. A graduate of Boyertown High School, Simpson earlier hit the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.18. The rookie capped the afternoon by swimming the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay to help the Sharks to a victory by just under four seconds with a time of 1:45.43. 

For the season, Simpson has won three of four individual events that she's entered. Last week, she won her individual collegiate debut with a time of 2:04.41 in the 200-freestyle and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.18. 

Simmons is currently 3-0 on the season and return to the pool on Saturday, November 7 when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the New England Invitational hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 1:00 p.m.
