WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Laura List (Bedford, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of January 16-22, it was announced today by the league.
List won both of the events that she entered on January 21 in a double-dual meet vs. Western New England University and Saint Joseph's College (Maine). The first year topped both schools in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.37 and came back later in the meet to finish ahead of all competitors in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:22.07.
The Bedford High School (Mass.) graduate has been outstanding this season, racking up 20 top-three finishes, including 11 first-place efforts. The rookie has touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke three times, while placing first in the 100-yard freestyle twice and the 100 and 200-yard backstroke one each as well as the 200-yard freestyle. List was a key contributor to the Sharks' 13th consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship on December 3-4, scoring second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle as well as the 100-yard backstroke to go with fourth-place showings in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke events. She has been an integral part of Simmons relay success this season, helping the Sharks win 10 relay events, including the 200-yard medley relay title at the GNAC Championship.
Simmons is currently a perfect 11-0 in dual meet action this season for the best record in school history and will close out the dual meet season on Saturday, January 28 when it hosts Mount Holyoke College at 12:00 p.m. at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium.
