INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Simmons College sophomore Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed 11th at this morning's NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship preliminaries in the 500-yard freestyle at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Scholand entered the event as the 14th seed and finished third in her heat with a time of 4:57.45, which stood as the 11th-fastest mark of the morning. Her time was less than a half second shy of her own school-record mark of 4:56.98, set at last month's New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Championship.
The second-year swimmer qualifies for tonight's consolation final at 6:00 p.m. and is guaranteed to score points for the Sharks to mark the first time in school history that the swimming & diving squad has accumulated points at the NCAA Championship meet.
