  • Tennis Lands Four on GNAC All-Conference Team

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Jessica Schroedl (Staatsburg, N.Y.), Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) and first year Celia Speth (Deerfield, Mass.) were all named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Second Team for singles, while Nguyen and Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) were each selected to the Second Team in doubles play, it was announced today by the league. Senior Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team as well.
  • Tennis Falls to Johnson & Wales, 5-2, in GNAC Championship

    WINCHESTER, Mass. – The third-seeded Simmons College women’s tennis team was defeated by top-seeded Johnson & Wales University, 5-2, this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center in Winchester, Mass. The Sharks fall to 11-6 to conclude their fall season before they resume dual match play in the spring. It was the 14th straight Championship appearance for Simmons. The Wildcats improve to 15-1 and capture their second straight GNAC crown.

    NEWTON, Mass. – First year Celia Speth (Deerfield, Mass.) and Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) were both double-winners to lead the third-seeded Simmons College women’s tennis team to a 5-1 victory over second-seeded Regis (Mass.) this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center in Winchester, Mass. 
  • Tennis Defeats Albertus Magnus, 5-0, to Advance to GNAC Tournament Semifinals

    BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) and junior Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) each won a pair of matches to lead the third-seeded Simmons College women’s tennis team over visiting number six seed Albertus Magnus College, 5-0, this afternoon in the Quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The contest was played to decision as the Sharks improve to 10-5 on the season to mark the 15th year they have reached double-digit wins in the last 16 campaigns. The Falcons fall to 7-8.
  • Nguyen, Johnson Pace Tennis over Suffolk, 6-3

    BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomores Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) and Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) were double-winners to lead the Simmons College women's tennis team over host Suffolk University, 6-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match today on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The match began in North Reading, Mass. at North Reading High School on Saturday, October 14, but was moved to Daly Courts later that day, only to be suspended due to rain with the Sharks holding a 1-0 lead. The match was completed today on Daly Courts. Simmons improves to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Rams fall to 7-6 and 3-3.

    NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team defeated host Smith College, 7-2, this afternoon in Northampton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 8-5 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 0-1 in their season opener.
  • Tennis Downed by Johnson & Wales, 9-0

    BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Johnson & Wales University, 9-0, this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in league play, while the Wildcats win their sixth straight match to improve to 10-1 overall, including 4-0 in league play.

    NEWTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women’s tennis team saw four players earn a pair of victories in a 9-0 dual-match win over host Mount Ida College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at the Mount Ida College Tennis Courts in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 1-7 and 0-3.

    WESTON, Mass. - First year Celia Speth (Deering, Mass.) and junior Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) each won a pair of matches for the Simmons College women's tennis team in a 5-4 loss to host Regis (Mass.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match this afternoon at the Regis Tennis Center in Weston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Pride improve to 4-1 and a perfect 3-0.
  • Rios Clinches Win for Tennis over Emerson, 5-4

    BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) overcame a 3-1 deficit in the third set to win in singles play and give the Simmons College women’s tennis team a 5-4 dual match victory this afternoon over visiting Emerson College on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks have won six of their last seven matches and improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Lions fall to 0-1 in their season opener. 
  • Tennis Shuts Out Albertus Magnus, 9-0

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women’s tennis team saw three players earn a pair of wins on the day in a 9-0 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this afternoon at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks have won five of their last six matches and improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 4-3 and 1-2.

    BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Mount Holyoke College, 9-0, this afternoon on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks' four-match win streak comes to an end as they dip to 4-3 on the season, while the Lyons win their season opener to improve to 1-0.

    BOSTON, Mass. – First year Celia Speth (Deerfield, Mass.) won both of her matches to lead the Simmons College women’s tennis team over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology, 6-3, this afternoon at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their fourth straight match to improve to 4-2, while the Leopards fall to 0-5.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomores Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) and Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) were both double winners to lead the Simmons College women’s tennis team to a 7-2 victory today over visiting University of Saint Joseph in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their third straight match to improve to 3-2 overall, including 1-0 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 0-3 and 0-1.

    WORCESTER, Mass. – The Simmons College women’s tennis team saw four players win a pair of matches on the day to fuel a 9-0 victory over host Clark University this afternoon in Worcester, Mass. The Sharks improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Cougars drop their season-opening match. 
  • Rios Leads Tennis over UMass Boston, 5-4

    BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) won the first two matches of her collegiate career to lead the Simmons College women’s tennis team to a 5-4 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts Boston today at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks earn their first win of the season and improve to 1-2, while the Beacons dip to 1-1. 
  • Tennis Defeated by Gordon, 9-0

    BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Gordon College, 9-0, today in dual match play at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Fighting Scots improve to 1-1 in the first meeting of at least the 21st century between the schools.

    BRISTOL, R.I. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by host Roger Williams University today, 8-1, in Bristol, R.I. in the season opening match for both teams. The Sharks fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 1-0.
