  • Tennis Falls to Johnson & Wales, 5-0, in First Round of GNAC Championship Tournament

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The sixth-seeded Simmons University women's tennis team was defeated by host number three seed Johnson & Wales University, 5-0, this afternoon in the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on the campus of Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. The loss dips the Sharks to 4-10 on the season and marks the first time since 2004 that they will not compete in the GNAC Championship match, while the Wildcats improve to 11-4 and advance to face number two seed Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The match will be played at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center. Simmons will resume its season during the spring.
  • Rios, Medici Lead Tennis in 7-2 Loss to Suffolk

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seniors Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine) and Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) each earned wins in singles play to lead the Simmons University women's tennis team on Senior Day in a 7-2 loss to visiting Suffolk University this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match played at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks fall to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in league play, while the Rams improve to 5-8 overall and 3-4.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) was one of three double-winners on the afternoon for the Simmons University women's tennis team in a 7-1 victory over host Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match at Celentano Courts in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks improve to 4-8 overall, including 2-4 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 3-8 and 0-6.

    WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Simmons University women's tennis team boasted three double-winners in a 6-3 victory over host University of Saint Joseph in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match today at the USJ Tennis Courts in West Hartford, Conn. The Sharks improve to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 1-6 and 0-5.

The Sharks fall to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in league play, while the Chargers improve to 6-2 and a perfect 5-0 in GNAC action.
