  • Sharks Receive 2011-2012 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honored 618 student athletes from 14 institutions on its 2011-2012 All-Academic Team announced this afternoon. Forty-five Simmons athletes received the honor, with representation from all eight varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC.

LOUIS, MO -- Volleyball sophomore Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) represented Simmons, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III athletics today at the annual College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) convention in St. Louis, Missouri on a panel titled, “Serving Student-Athletes: Are we getting it right?”
  • Sharks Volleyball Coach Vaccari Named Thirty Under 30 by AVCA

    LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Simmons Head Volleyball Coach Alesia Vaccari was named a Thirty Under 30 award recipient by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Thursday. The award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent across all levels of the sport of volleyball. To be eligible for the award, nominees had to be 30 years old or younger in 2011.

    BOSTON, Mass. -- Last month, Simmons sophomore Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) attended the NCAA National Convention held in Indianapolis, Ind., where she represented Simmons, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) as a National Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member. Connolly is a Communications major and a member of the Simmons Volleyball team.
  • Flynn Selected to NEWVA All-New England Senior Classic

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was selected as one of New England’s top 33 Division III senior volleyball players announced by the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Tuesday afternoon. Flynn will compete in the 2011 NEWVA Senior Classic on December 4th, at the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

  • Sharks Volleyball Falls to Emerson in Semifinals

    BOSTON, Mass. – The #4 ranked Simmons Volleyball team fell to the #1 Emerson College Lions Thursday night in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals. The Lions defeated the Sharks in four, with scores of 25-15, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-15. The win puts the Lions in the GNAC Finals where they'll face the Rivier Raiders.
  • Sharks Advance to GNAC Semifinals for First Time in Program History

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The #4 ranked Simmons Volleyball team defeated the #5 Norwich University Cadets 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11), Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal action. The Sharks dropped the first two games but fought hard in the third game, edging out a 26-24 victory before finding their rhythm in the final games. Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) finished with a 0.389 hitting percentage for the evening, a season’s best.
  • GNAC Women's Volleyball 2011 Playoff Schedule Announced

    Simmons Volleyball is ranked #4 as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced the Playoff schedule today. The Sharks, who finished the regular season with a conference record of 9-4 and an overall record of 19-9 will host #5 Norwich University (8-5, 16-9), on Tuesday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m.
  • Flynn Reaches 1,000th Career Kill Milestone

    BOSTON, Mass. - Simmons senior outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded her 1,000th career kill this afternoon to help the Simmons volleyball team defeat Saint Joseph’s College (Conn.), 3-0 at Johnson & Wales in the final GNAC tri-match of the season.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- In the middle match of the day, Simmons had the 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 27-25) victory against St. Joseph. Simmons was led by senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) with 17 kills and 15 digs. Flynn recorded the 1,000th kill of her career in the win for the Sharks.

    NEWTON, Mass. – The Sharks defeated Mount Ida College Mustangs 3-2 in their opening matching at a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon. Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) lead the sharks with 16 kills and 24 digs. Junior Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) added 35 assists and 19 digs, while Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) was a force on defense with 26 digs.
  • Colby-Sawyer Sweeps Simmons, 3-0

    NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep against Simmons in non-conference action on Thursday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 27-25. Colby-Sawyer, who donned pink jerseys in support of the cure for breast cancer, evens its record to 14-14, while Simmons drops to 16-7.
  • Connolly Named to NCAA Division III National SAAC Committee

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sharks volleyball sophomore Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) was named to the NCAA Division III National Student Athlete Advisory Committee last week, where she will represent the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and Simmons College through May of 2014. The appointment to the National Committee is a first for Simmons.
  • Sharks Tripped Up By Saints

    BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball won the first game but were tripped up by crosstown rival Emmanuel College Saints 4-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20), in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday night. With the win, the Saints move to 15-13 overall and 7-2 in the GNAC while the Sharks fall to 15-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
  • Sharks Volleyball Tops Lions in Four

    QUINCY, Mass. – Simmons volleyball defeated the Eastern Nazarene Lions in a non-conference match-up Saturday morning in front of students and alumni who were in town for Homecoming Weekend. The Sharks won the match in four sets, (15-25, 16-25, 31-29, 10-25) as the Lions, who started the season hot, have dropped their last eight contests, struggled to find their offensive flow.
  • Sharks Fall to Undefeated Emerson 3-0

    BOSTON, Mass. – In a match of the GNAC unbeatens, the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team defeated the Simmons Sharks Thursday night in a 3-0 sweep. The Lions topped the Sharks 25-11 in all three sets, improving to first place in the conference with a 15-5 overall record and 9-0 GNAC standing, while Simmons falls to 16-5 on the year and 6-1 in the conference.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball was defeated by the Southern Vermont Mountaineers 3-0 Thursday evening at Simmons College in non-conference play. SVC improved to 17-2 with the victory over while the Sharks fell to 11-4 overall. The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-14. Mountaineer’s senior captain Hershey Canta recorded 28 assists in the game including her 1000th in her career.
  • Sharks Edged by Corsairs in Fifth Game

    NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass – Simmons Volleyball fell to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team after the Corsairs rallied in the fifth game to win, 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25 and 15-12, in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Simmons Sharks remained undefeated in conference play Saturday as they swept GNAC conference rivals Albertus Magnus and Anna Maria in women’s volleyball action at the Albertus Magnus Tri-Match. The Sharks posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) decision in the win against the Falcons and a 3-0 (25-21, 25-8, 25-22) against the AMCATS to move to 11-2 overall.

  • Sharks Volleyball Splits at MIT Tri-Match

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball went 1-1 on the weekend at the MIT Tri-Match, where they played non-conference Clark University and host MIT. The Sharks defeated Clark University, 3-2 (25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-6) in the most back and forth match of the weekend. Senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) put away 23 kills to help Simmons (8-2) put away Clark in five sets. Setter Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) also had a strong outing for the Sharks, handing out 44 assists and serving up five aces.

Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) paced the Sharks with 30 Kills, 3 Service Aces, and 6 Digs against conference rival Norwich and 14 Kills, 1 Service Ace, and 10 Digs versus Suffolk University.
