  • Weeg Named GNAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Year; Harberts Tabbed Second Team

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection, while Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) was tabbed to the Second Team, it was announced today by the league.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The second-seeded Simmons College women's volleyball team was defeated by top-seeded nationally-ranked number 10 Johnson & Wales University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-6), this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at the Wildcat Center in Providence, R.I. The Sharks' 12-match win streak comes to an end and they fall to 21-10 on the year, while the Wildcats win their third straight GNAC crown and remain undefeated at a perfect 32-0.

  • Harberts Leads Volleyball Past Rivier, 3-0, to Advance to GNAC Championship

    BOSTON, Mass. – First year Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) smashed a match-high 15 kills to lead the second-seeded Simmons College women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) victory over visiting number three seed Rivier University this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their school-record 12th straight match to improve to 21-9 on the year to set a school mark for wins in a season. The Raiders fall to 20-12.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) spiked for 15 kills on a .462 hitting percentage to lead the second-seeded Simmons College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 29-27) victory over visiting number seven seed Suffolk University this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their school-record 11th straight contest to improve to 20-9 on the season to match the school standard for wins in a season, while the Rams end their season with a 13-16 record.

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of October 23-29, it was announced today by the league. Harberts earns the honor for a league-high third time after previously being named for the weeks of September 18-24 and October 2-8.

  • Volleyball Sweeps St. Joseph (Conn.) (3-0) and Suffolk (3-1) to Close Season with 10 Straight Wins

    WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) and first year Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) combined for 64 kills in seven sets to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) victory over host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) and a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22) win over Suffolk University this afternoon at the O'Connell Center in West Hartford, Conn. The Sharks extend their win streak to 10 straight matches for the longest such streak in recent memory and improve to 19-9 overall, including a school-record 11-1 in league play, while St. Joseph is now 5-20 and 0-12, while Suffolk stands at 13-15 and 6-6. Simmons secures the number two seed in the GNAC Championship Tournament and will waste no time in seeing Suffolk again, hosting the seventh-seeded Rams on Tuesday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the Quarterfinals at Moore Gymnasium.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) spiked for 19 kills, fueled by a .361 hitting percentage to lead the Simmons College women’s volleyball team over visiting Babson College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21), this evening at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their eighth straight match to equal their longest streak since October 11-25, 2014 and improve to 17-9 on the season, while the Beavers, who are ranked seventh in the latest NCAA New England Regional Poll, slip to 18-8. The win was the first victory for Simmons over Babson since September 8, 1998. 
  • Volleyball Defeats Anna Maria, 3-0, for Seventh Straight Win

    BOSTON, Mass. –Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) spiked a match-high 15 kills to lead the Simmons College women’s volleyball team to its seventh-straight win, sweeping visiting Anna Maria College 3-0, in straight sets, (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) at Moore Gymnasium, in Boston, Mass, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The Sharks improve to 16-9 on the season and 9-1 in GNAC play, while the AMCATS fall to 4-19 overall and 1-9 in the GNAC.

    BOSTON, Mass. – First year outside hitter Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) posted a double-double of 16 kills and a career-high 19 digs to lead the Simmons College women’s volleyball team over visiting Emmanuel College (Mass.), 3-1 (25-11, 25-18, 28-30, 25-8) this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their sixth straight match to improve to 15-9 overall and 8-1 in league play, while the Saints fall to 6-17 and 4-5. 
  • Fusco Named GNAC Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week Again

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week of October 9-15, it was announced today by the league. The award marks the second straight week that she has been a recipient of the honor and is the only player in school history to have earned the award multiple times since it was instituted for the 2016 campaign.

    BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) posted a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team over host Emerson College, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16), this evening at Brown & Plofker Gym in Boston. The Sharks win their fifth match in a row to improve to 14-9 on the season, while the Lions fall to 10-10.

    BOSTON, Mass. – First year outside hitter Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) spiked for a match-high 13 kills and hit .333 for the match to lead the Simmons College women’s volleyball team over visiting Lasell College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-21), in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this evening at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their fourth straight match to improve to 13-9 overall and 7-1 in league play, while extending their streak of winning sets in GNAC play to 13. The Lasers fall to 8-16 and 2-4.

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of October 2-8, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second time this season that Harberts has earned the award, having also been named the top rookie for the week of September 18-24 as the only player in the GNAC to have been tabbed multiple times this season.

  • Volleyball Sweeps Rivier (3-0) and Norwich (3-0); First Win over Rivier Since 1999

    NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team swept Rivier University, 3-0 (25-17, 30-28, 26-24), and host Norwich University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-18), in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match this afternoon at Andrews Hall in Northfield, Vt. The Sharks have won three straight matches as part of a four-match win streak over league opponents, including 10 consecutive sets and improve to 12-9 overall and 6-1 in league play, while the Raiders stand at 11-8 and 4-2 and Norwich now owns a 9-9 season and 1-5 GNAC mark.

    PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) spiked for a match-high 16 kills and hit .333 to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-19) loss to host Plymouth State University in the first contest of a tri-match this afternoon at Foley Gymnasium in Plymouth, N.H. The Sharks fall to 9-8 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 12-5.

    NEWTON, Mass. - Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) smashed 21 kills and first year Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) set for 27 assists to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team over host Mount Ida College, 3-2 (25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 24-26, 15-11) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this evening at the MIC Athletic Center in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Mustangs fall to 10-7 and 0-2.

The Sharks defeated Albertus Magnus College 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) and host Regis (Mass.), 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) to win their third straight match and improve to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Falcons are now 9-6 and 0-2 and Regis is 5-10, 2-1.

The Sharks fall to 5-6 on the season, while the Lynx improve to 4-5.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team defeated Smith College, 3-1 (25-23, 13-25, 25-18, 25-21), before falling to host nationally-ranked number 20 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) in a tri-match this afternoon at Rockwell Cage in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks are now 5-5 on the season, while Smith is 4-6 and MIT is a perfect 11-0.

    SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in a tri-match, falling 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20) to Elms College, before defeating host Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21), this afternoon at Mildred Howard Gym in South Hadley, Mass. The Sharks are now 4-3 on the season, while Elms is 4-2. Mount Holyoke is 4-1.
