DORCHESTER, Mass. - The Simmons Cross Country team saw seven runners post personal-record times, including a 68-second improvement by sophomore Madison Rivard (Sharon, Mass.), at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship this morning at historic Franklin Park, in Dorchester, Mass. The Sharks competed in the Junior Varsity event.
University of New Hampshire won the meet with a team score of 50, led by individual winner Hannah Kimball with a time of 18:22.61. Simmons compiled 736 points to place 24th.
Sophomore Sara Harland (Pembroke, Mass.) was the top finisher for Simmons, placing 217th overall and 96th among Division III competitors with a personal-record time of 21:41.26 to best her previous mark by eight seconds. Rivard finished 252nd overall and was the Sharks' fourth-best time of the day and a personal-best for her.
Sophomore Mia DeLuccia (Lynnfield, Mass.) was just seven seconds behind Harland to place 222nd and turn in a time of 21:48.10 to clip her previous best mark by three ticks. Sophomore Bethanie Royality-Lindman (Wakefield, R.I.) was three seconds behind in 226th with a mark of 21:51.35 to shave 28 seconds off her personal-best time. Junior Tiffany Lo (Braintree, Mass.) rounded out the scoring contingent for Simmons with a time of 23:23.97, which was 21 seconds better than her best and placed her 281st overall. Sophomore Kaitlyn Maloney (Amherst, N.H.) erased her previous best by 55 seconds, clocking in at 23:33.02 to place 285th, while senior Caroline Coughlin (Chelmsford, Mass.) came in at 23:31.50 to finish 283rd and break her personal-mark by 48 seconds.
Junior Alicia Morales (Uxbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Hannah Hast (Bow, N.H.) each registered season-best times for the Sharks. Morales crossed the finish at 23:30.09 to pass her previous season best by 36 seconds and placed 282nd, while Hast beat her former best time by two seconds with an effort of 25:57.23 to finish 300th.
Simmons will run again on Saturday, October 18 when it heads to South Hadley, Mass. to compete in the Seven Sisters Invitational, hosted by Smith College at 11:00 a.m.
