NASHUA, N.H. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team was beaten by host Rivier University, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-20) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this afternoon at Muldoon Gymnasium in Nashua, N.H. The Sharks dip to 9-10 overall and 6-3 in league action, while the Raiders win their sixth straight match to improve to 25-3 and 8-1.
Rivier hit .337 for the match and also registered nine total blocks.
First year outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) led Simmons with 12 kills on a .250 hitting percentage and added six digs, while senior libero Alex Itasaka (Bradford, Mass.) paced the Sharks' defense with 11 digs. First year setter Carly Wanner-Hyde (Newington, Conn.) set for 20 assists, picked up three digs and fired a pair of aces.
The veteran duo of senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) nearly accounted for all of the Raider kills. Mott finished with 13 kills and a .591 hitting percentage while Silverman was just a tick behind her at 12 kills and a .579 hitting percentage. Silverman also continued her dominance along the net as she totaled five blocks with Mott adding three of her own. Sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) helped guide the Rivier offense as she had 37 helpers on the afternoon and junior libero Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) collected 13 digs. Senior Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) contributed with a solid match as she knocked down eight kills and eight digs.
Simmons returns to the court on Wednesday, October 26 when it travels to Babson Park, Mass. to take on Babson College, while Rivier will head to Waltham, Mass. to play Brandeis University on October 25 at 7:00 p.m.
