Volleyball Falls to Non-Conference Emerson at Home

BOSTON - Simmons volleyball (11-5) dropped a tough non-conference match to nearby Emerson College (10-6), on Thursday evening. It was the second time the Sharks fell to the Lions this season. 

Junior outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono came a kill shy of her eighth double-double of the year, tallying nine kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Claire Conners also posted nine kills with a pair of block assists, while sophomore Kat Simeonidis paced the Shark offense with 23 assists.. 

Set 1: Emerson 25, Simmons 18
The Lions started the match strong taking the first set, 25-18. Amelia Combs posted a .429 attack percentage with three kills on seven attempts, while Parker Cummings also notched three kills. 

Sophomore Claire Conners led the Sharks hitting .250 with three kills on eight attempts and one miscue, while classmate Jayla Parnell also notched three kills in the set. Fellow second year Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with 11 assists. 

Set 2: Emerson 26, Simmons 24
Simmons mounted a valiant comeback in the second set to attempt to tie the match at a game each. Junior Sydney Iannantuno registered a .357 hitting percentage with five kills on 14 attempts, while Conners followed suit with four kills. 

Despite trailing for much of the match, the Lions came back with a late set push to claim the 26-24 victory. 

Set 3: Emerson 25, Simmons 19
Emerson was able to seal the match with a 25-19 win in the third set. Brooke Maynez led the way with three kills on eight attempts, while Cummings also chipped in three kills of her own. 

Iannantuono led the Sharks offensively and defensively, tallying three kills and six digs as Conners followed up with a pair of kills. Simeonidis guided the offense with three assists.

Simmons returns to the court on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Newton, Mass. for a tri-match against Emmanuel College (1 p.m.) and host Lasell College (3 p.m.)
