CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving gained some ground on Wellesley College after the second day of the three-day MIT Invitational on Saturday.
The Sharks' 200-yard freestyle relay A squad of
Isabel Barry-Ruiz,
Chaelin Humphrey,
Bee Eckels and
Carli Quinlan clocked as season-best time of 1:45.59 in the morning prelims. In the evening finals, the foursome placed third in the B finals touching the wall with a time of 1:45.77. Simmons' B-relay team of
Laura Luthi,
Julia Long,
Camelia Hannah, and
Clarissa Weaver cut one second off their prelim time clocking in with a time of 1:57.68 in the finals.
Sophomore
Anna Kelly took two seconds off her top collegiate and personal-best time in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall with time of 2:25.75. A tenth of second later came first-year
Chaelin Humphrey, who recorded as season-best time of 2:25.83.
Junior captain
Carli Quinlan qualified for the A-finals of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.23 – just three second shy of an NCAA B-cut time. In the evening session, the Haverhill, Massachusetts native finished 10
th with a time of 1:56.37.
Sophomores
Isabel Barry-Ruiz and
Laura Luthi also competed in the 200-yard freestyle. Barry-Ruiz eclipsed her previous top collegiate time, touching the wall with a time of 2:08.82 – just four seconds from her personal-best, while Luthi registered a personal-best time of 2:14.11.
The Sharks capped of day two with the 400-yard medley relay. The A-squad of
Camelia Hannah,
Bee Eckels,
Chaelin Humphrey and
Carli Quinlan posted a time of 4:28.94, while the B-squad of
Laura Luthi,
Julia Long,
Anna Kelly, and
Isabel Barry-Ruiz finished in 4:39.48.
