SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving (1-4) opened the new calendar year in the western part of Massachusetts with a non-conference dual meet against Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Isabel Barry-Ruiz tied her top collegiate career best in the 200-yard freestyle touching the wall eight tenths of a second faster than Mount Holyoke's Hannah Heierhoff with a time of 2:08.82. In the 100-yard freestyle, classmate
Bee Eckels beat out the Lyons' Sophie Allen by one second with a time of 58.65, while sophomore
Clarissa Weaver posted a time of 1:16.49.
Senior captain
Camelia Hannah secured a pair of first place finishes in the 50-yard (and 100-yard backstroke, clocking times of 29.57 and 1:06.58, respectively. Junior captain
Carli Quinlan secured first place in the 50-yard fly with a time of 26.83 ,while sophomore
Anna Kelly placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:02.43.
The Sharks closed out the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay where the A-squad of
Chaelin Humphrey,
Isabel Barry-Ruiz,
Laura Luthi and
Carli Quinlan posted a time of 1:53.40.
