Sharks Earn NAC Championship Birth With 4-1 Win Over Lynx

PORTLAND, Maine – The No. 1 seeded-Simmons University Tennis team squared off against the No. 4 seed Lesley Univeristy on the Apex Tennis Courts today. The Sharks advanced to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship after taking down the Lynx who were Simmons' only blemish on their inaugural conference schedule this fall.

How It Happened
  • Starting off on the right foot, Emilie Lapointe and Emma Parsons doubled up their opponents on the No. 2 doubles court, 6-3. Then, the No. 1 duo of Masha Shutts and Amoli Vad sealed the overall doubles point with their 7-5 victory. Despite the point already secured by the Sharks, Grace Burke and Laura Lowe finished off the sweep with a grueling 6-6 (10-8) win in No. 3 action.
  • As stated by conference rules, the match was to be played "to decision" meaning the Sharks needed just three more wins to seal the deal. Vad got the job done in the No. 3 with a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 win. Then, the Lynx were able to steal a win in No. 4 action to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of Simmons. Veteran Lowe got the better of her No. 5 counterpart (6-2, 6-4) right before Shutts clinched the Championship appearance for the Sharks with her 7-5, 6-3 triumph in No. 1 action.
