Sharks Secure First Wins Of the Season On The Road

WESTON, Mass. — On Friday night, the Simmons Swim and Dive team traveled west to compete in a quad meet against Regis College, Elms College and Gordon College. After a long month of competition, the Sharks earned their first wins against Regis, 175.00-88.00, and Elms, 177.00-65.00, but unfortunately fell to Gordon, 158.00-111.00. 
 
By The Numbers

  • The 200 yard medley relay team comprised of Laura Luthi, Julia Long, Carli Quinlan and Bee Eckels opened the evening with a second place finish (2:02.18). 
  • Isabel Barry-Ruiz came in second place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:39.29.
  • Senior Carli Quinlan took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.82, just hundreds of seconds off of the pool record. Luthi came in third with a time of 2:19.51.
  • Barry-Ruiz had a quick turnaround but pulled off another second place finish in the 50 yard backstroke (33.53). 
  • Long scored second in the 50 yard breaststroke, going 37.53.
  • Chaelin Humphrey touched in second with a time of 1:08.26 in the 100 yard butterfly. 
  • Barry-Ruiz earned second in the 100 yard freestyle, going 1:00.40.
  • Luthi and Eckels touched second and third in the 100 yard backstroke. Luthi swam the event in 1:10.32 while Eckels went 1:12.02.
  • Long and her teammate Charlotte Doherty also took second and third in the 100 yard breaststroke. Long going a time of 1:20.73 and Doherty going 1:21.60.
  • Humphrey claimed third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:11.75.
  • Quinlan took first place in the 50 yard butterfly when she swam a time of 27.27. Her teammate Anna Kelly came in third, going 29.98.
  • Eckels touched the final wall in first in the 100 yard individual medley, swimming a 1:08.07. 
  • The Sharks ended the night with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Humphrey, Barry-Ruiz, Eckels and Quinlan swam a time of 1:49.27. 
  • For diving, Melanie Powers came in second with a score of 355.55.

The Sharks will be back in the water at the MIT Winter Invite after the university gets back from Thanksgiving break. The meet will run Fri, Dec. 5 through Sun, Dec. 7.
