Falcons Take Early Lead, Hold Off Sharks In Championship Series Opener

BRIGHTON, Mass. – In the opening game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Championship Series, the Albertus Magnus College Falcons defeated the Simmons University Sharks by a score of 5-2.

How It Happened
  • After a lead-off Falcon double in the top of the first, pitcher Piper Kinney sat the next three batters down to keep it 0-0.
  • The Falcons capitalized on a timely hit in the second to go on top, 2-0 before adding two more to their tally in the third (4-0).
  • Simmons came alive offensively in the home half of the third to make it a two-run game after singles from Kinney, Abigail Carvalho, and Zoe Soule.
  • Albertus Magnus added one more in the sixth to hold off the Sharks, 5-2.
Beyond The Box Score
  • No stranger to adversity, the last time the Sharks captured the GNAC title, they also dropped game one of the championship series.
  • The Sharks and Falcons return to Daly Field on Sunday, May 10 with a noon time first pitch.
