Erica Schuling

Erica Schuling has served as the Director of Athletics & Recreation since March 2022, after stepping into the Interim Director role in January 2022. She began her career at Simmons University in 2006 as the head women’s soccer coach and expanded her leadership by becoming Associate Athletic Director in 2015.
 
Administrative Highlights

  • Named 2023-2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Executive of the Year.
  • Trained as an NCAA One Team Facilitator at the NCAA Headquarters in Fall 2024.
  • Served on NCAA Regional Advisory Committee for Women's Soccer 2023 and 2024.
  • Introduced several new initiatives, including the reinstatement of indoor and outdoor track programs, increasing Simmons' sports sponsorship to 11 varsity teams. Additionally, Schuling was instrumental in supporting the start of the Cheer Team as a club sport.
  • Led the department’s transition to a new website platform with Sidearm Sports, enhancing video streaming capabilities with Hudl and significantly boosting Alumnae Giving Day participation.
  • Spearheaded innovative virtual training and recruitment strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic, achieving a 0% transmission rate among athletes in Spring 2021.
  • Played a pivotal role presenting to the Board of Trustees on the impact of a state-of-the-art outdoor athletic facility, influencing its planning and development over five years, culminating in the opening of the Daly Field Athletic Complex in 2016.
  • As Associate Athletic Director, managed departmental purchasing, expense reporting, supervised tennis and cross country coaching staffs, and served as the Title IX Coordinator for Athletics. 
Coaching Career Highlights
  • Guided the women’s soccer team to three Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship game appearances, securing the GNAC title in 2009.
  • Coached 52 all-conference selections, including the 2009 GNAC Rookie of the Year and the 2014 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Twice honored as GNAC Coach of the Year (2009, 2014).
  • Her team scored the first-ever goal for Simmons at the Daly Field Athletic Complex during a match against Wellesley College on September 1, 2016.
  • Established an annual alumnae/i soccer game that fosters networking, internships, and employment connections between current and former student-athletes.
Before Simmons
  • Four-year starter and two-year captain for the Syracuse University women’s soccer team.
  • Earned multiple academic and athletic honors during her collegiate career.
  • Recipient of the 2003 Verhulst Sportswoman of the Year Award for leadership and sportsmanship.

A native of Weymouth, Massachusetts, Schuling lives in Swampscott with her wife Tara and their two children, Spencer and Sloane.
