Simmons Field Hockey opened the season at home on Tuesday night, falling to a strong Babson squad, 8-0.

The Sharks offense was led by sophomore Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.), and backed by defenders Maggie Weeks (Melvin Village, N.H.) and Nicole Morrison (Stoughton, Mass.).

"We started off strongly tonight but had a big lapse in play in the middle of the first half," said Coach Leonard. "We showed promise throughout much of the game though, but we really suffered when we hesitated. Thursday we will look to do a better job cutting and passing in the midfield, recovering from mistakes more quickly and aggressively."

Freshman Molly Maidman (West Hartford, Conn.) made her collegiate debut in goal for Simmons, making 11 saves, but allowing eight goals to the Beavers.

Simmons will travel to Wheaton on Thursday, September 3 for a 4:30 PM game.
