Sharks Blank Chargers, 3-0

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Field Hockey scored twice in the first half and once in the second to defeat the visiting Colby-Sawyer College Chargers, 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference action Wednesday evening.

The Sharks (10-7, 4-3 NAC) dominated the opening half with 19 shots to the Chargers one. Colby-Sawyer's goalkeeper Jodi Dumayne had an outstanding opening 30 minutes but the Sharks broke the stalemate at 31:55 as first year Mary Neidhardt (Middlefield, Conn.) slipped a pass across the circle to classmate Hailey Bruno-Moulton (South Berwick, Maine) for the score.

Three minutes later, Sharks first year Jenna Gagnon (Waterville, Maine) collected a pass outside the circle and dribbled through the Chargers defense to defeat Dumayne one on one for the 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Simmons quickly added to their lead off a penalty corner as senior midfielder Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) sent a perfect pass to the baseline where inserter Amy Cronin (Georgetown, Mass.) deflected the ball into the Chargers net for a 3-0 lead.

The Chargers had their best opportunity of the game off two consecutive penalty corners. Nykki Stritzinger sent a hard shot on net that was blocked by Sharks defender Avery Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) and Alexa Comesanas tested Simmons goalkeeper Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) but was unable to convert.

Simmons held a commanding advantage in shots, 41-5 and a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. Smith picked up the win with one save, while Dumayne made an impressive 30 saves in the loss.

The Sharks finish up NAC conference play this weekend at home against New England College on Saturday and Husson University on Sunday. Both games begin at 1:00 PM.
