Volleyball Victorious in a 3-0 Sweep of Non-Conference Westfield State

BOSTON – Simmons volleyball returned to its winning ways with a 3-0 sweep of non-conference Westfield State University (1-12) on Tuesday evening. 

The Sharks posted its best attack percentage of the season, hitting .368 as a team with 42 kills on 87 attempts and just 10 miscues. Junior outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono was flawless from the floor, hitting her season-best .550 with 11 kills on 20 attempts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Simmons 25, Westfield State 13
Simmons set the tone of the game from the first set. Sophomore Claire Conners led the way with seven kills and two block assists, while Iannantuono was a steady presence on the floor, hitting .429, tallying three kills on seven attempts.

Set 2 – Simmons 25, Westfield State 16
Momentum continue to flow the Sharks direction into the second set. Hitting .440 as a team, the Sharks took a 2-0 match advantage with a 25-16 victory. Senior middle blocker Amanda Fortune hitting .500 with four kills on six attempts and one error, while sophomore Jayla Parnell jumped into the offensive registering a .429 attack percentage (4-1-7).

Set 3 – Simmons 25, Westfield State 19
The Sharks sealed the match with a 25-19 win in game three, holding off a valiant comeback attempt by the Owls. Iannantuono closed out an outstanding match, registering a .625 attack percentage with five kills on eight attempts. Parnell matched Iannantuono's five kills with five of her own, while Conners was nearly perfect from the floor, tallying three kills on four attempts.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Sydney Iannantuono posted her season-best attack percentage, hitting .550 with 11 kills on 20 attempts and zero errors.
  • The Sharks combined to post 16 service aces, led by sophomores Jayla Parnell (4) and Kat Simeonidis (4).
  • Parnell also followed up with nine kills.
  • Sophomore Claire Conners hit .389, tallying nine kills on 18 attempts with just two errors.
