Field Hockey Records Back-to-Back Shutouts, Blanking Anna Maria, 3-0

Box Score

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (4-0, 1-0 GNAC) earned its fourth straight win, opening Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action with a 3-0 shutout of Anna Maria College (0-3, 0-1 GNAC) on Saturday morning.

The Sharks set the tone of the game early. Sophomore Hannah Groves fired a pass towards the front of the net where fellow classmate Anna Tedeschi was standing right there to tip it in to put Simmons up 1-0.

It remained a tight one-score game for the remainder of the first quarter. Three minutes into the second quarter junior Aria Badra connected with Tedeschi to give the Shark an insurance goal. With a two-goal advantage, Simmons settled down and continued to control the pace of the game.

Just before the end of the first half, driving up the middle of the field, sophomore Sydney Gonyea scored her fifth goal of the season – and fourth of the week. The Sharks went into halftime with the 3-0 lead and never looked back.

Simmons cruised to its second straight shutout as senior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan earned her second victory of the season. It was the first time since the 2019 the Sharks have recorded back-to-back shutouts.
