Gonyea Notches Career Single-Game Five Goals to Lead Field Hockey's Offensive Explosion over Elms

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Senior forward Sydney Gonyea eclipsed her career single-game high finding the back of the cage five times in a convincing 14-0 win over Elms College (0-12, 0-8 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday.
 
Senior Anna Tedeschi got the scoring started with a goal in the 14th minute to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead heading into the second quarter. Two minutes into the second period, Gonyea added her first tally of game to give the Sharks the two-goal lead. With seven minutes remaining in the first half the Sharks rattled off three straight goals by Tedeschi and sophomore Nellie Long and Ava Kahl to end the half up 5-0.
 
Returning to the field at the start of the second half, the Sharks continued to pour on the offense rattling off nine. Gonyea got the offensive explosion with back-to-back goals in the first four minutes. Moments, later senior Alison Michalik notched her first goal of her collegiate career on a penalty stroke goal.
 
The Sharks were not done. In the final stanza, Gonyea added another two goals to finish with five on the day, while senior Emilia Elko capped of the scoring, finding the back of the cage in the 53rd minute.
