Field Hockey Finishes as GNAC Runner Up; Falling to JWU, 4-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 2024 season came to a close for Simmons field hockey (18-3) in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) falling to Johnson & Wales University (18-3) in the Championship Game on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks struck first off a penalty corner three minutes into the contest. Senior Hannah Groves connected with junior Zoe Schmaling to find the back of the cage to take a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Schmaling scored her fourth goal against the Wildcats knocking in a pass from senior Anna Tedeschi to give Simmons the two goal-lead.

However, the Wildcats clawed their way back. They cut the deficit in half, 2-1 heading into the second quarter before scoring the equalizer 47 seconds into the second period. Just before the first half ended, Johnson & Wales took their first lead of the game which they would not relinquish. They added an insurance goal in the 31st minute.

Senior Alison Michalik, senior Emilia Elko and sophomore Lilly Taglieri all were named to the 2024 GNAC All-Tournament Team.
