Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – Senior forward
Sydney Gonyea and
Anna Tedeschi each recorded a hat-trick to help Simmons field hockey begin the season at 1-0 following a 6-0 shutout over Maine-Farmington on Friday evening.
The Sharks wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard early, six minutes into the contest when junior
Ainslee Shrout connected with Gonyea to give Simmons the one goal lead. Two minutes later, Tedeschi received a pass from fellow classmate
Emilia Elko to take a 2-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.
Simmons continues to fire on all cylinders, offensively, scoring a quick two goals five minutes into the second period. Tedeschi found Gonyea for her second goal of the game, before the New Hampshire native buried her third goal of the contest a minute later.
Returning to the field at the start of the second half with a four-goal cushion, Tedeschi kept pace with her classmate. Seconds into the period, Tedeschi scored her second goal of the game off a penalty corner to increase the lead to five.
The Sharks offensive continued to pepper the Maine-Farmington goalie with shots. Early in the final stanza of play, Tedeschi found the back of the cage once again on a pass from junior
Zoe Schmaling to seal the shutout.
Sophomore goalie
Haley Bright got the stat in the net for the Sharks and played the first half before turning over the reins to first-year goalie
Trinity Williamson, who played the final 30 minutes.
