BRIGHTON, Mass. – In their second match of the season, Simmons tennis (0-2) was edged out by non-conference Gordon College (1-0) in a Labor Day matinee at Daly Field.
While the Fighting Scots took doubles winning second and third doubles, the Sharks' first doubles tandem of sophomore
Emilie Lapointe and first-year
Masha Shutts picked up their second win as a pair. Lapointe and Shutts were able to come out on top, knocking of Annette Kim and Makayla Otey, 6-4.
In the singles portion of the afternoon, Lapointe earned her second win of the day following a three-set win in second singles. The central Massachusetts native grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a 6-2 first set win, Otey tied up the match in the second set before Lapointe sealed the win a 10-7 tie-break win.
Sophomore
Grace Burke picked up her first win of the year with a three-set victory in fifth singles over Emma Tiemens. Narrowly taking the first set, Tiemans evened the match with a 6-1 win before Burke took the third set tiebreaker, 10-7. Additionally,
Masha Shutts earned her first singles victory of her collegiate career with a three-set (7-6, 5-7, 10-5) win over Annette Kim in first singles.
