BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis (1-2) picked up its first win of the season with a convincing 6-1 victory over non-conference Salem State University (0-1) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Sharks came out of the gate strong following a sweep of doubles. First doubles tandem sophomore
Emilie Lapointe and first-year
Masha Shutts set the tone, blanking Madison Sartori and Abigail Laliberte, 6-0. Moments later, seniors
Emily Lopez and
Julia Perconti edged out Ryann Tripp and Kenzie McLaren, 6-4, in third doubles, before sophomore
Grace Burke and first-year
Reese McFarland completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in second odubles.
Momentum rolled into singles. Lapointe worked quickly in second singles, blanking Tripp in two sets (6-0, 6-0). Her doubles partner,
Masha Shutts earned her second straight singles victory edging out Sartori, 6-2, 6-1.
Making her first singles appearance of the season,
Amoli Vlad defeated Kenzie McLaren, (6-1, 6-2), while Lopez earned her first win of the season following a two-set (6-3, 6-2) win in fourth singles. Sophomore
Grace Burke rounded out the Sharks with a two-set, 6-4, 6-4 win in sixth singles.
