BRIGHTON, Mass. – Returning to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Simmons tennis (6-4, 2-2 GNAC) earned its fourth straight victory shutting out Albertus Magnus College (0-7, 0-2 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Sharks came out of the gate strong with a sweep of doubles. First doubles tandem sophomore
Emilie Lapointe and first-year
Masha Shutts blanked JuJu Oliver and Julianna Sigut , 8-0, while first-years
Reese McFarland and
Lidia Cirillo shutout Gabby Augustin and Amanda Borges in third doubles, 8-0. Sophomore
Laura Lowe and first-year
Amoli Vad rounded out the Sharks with an 8-1 win in second doubles.
In the singles portion of the competition, McFarland made quick work of Anaeliz Guerrero in six singles to earn the two-set, 6-0, 6-0 win, while sophomore
Emma Parsons blanked Augustin in two sets, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore
Grace Burke earned her, team-leading seventh win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win in fourth singles.
Senior
Emily Lopez took third singles in two sets from Sigut, 6-1, 6-0, while Lapointe shutout Osiana Brown, 6-0, 6-0, in second singles. First-year
Masha Shutts needed three sets to pull out the first singles win over JuJu Oliver, but won the third-set tie-breaker with ease.
