Tennis Drops GNAC Opener to Colby-Sawyer, 8-1

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. - Simmons tennis (1-3, 0-1 GNAC) dropped its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener falling to Colby-Sawyer College, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Sharks first doubles tandem of sophomore Emilie Lapointe and first-year Masha Shutts remained perfect earning the lone Simmons win of the afternoon. Lapointe and Shutts knocked off Elise Hogan and Sky Jara, 8-3. But the Chargers were able to pull out doubles following wins in second and third doubles.
 
In the singles portion of the day, Shutts nearly forced a third set in first singles. Despite dropping the first set, 6-2, she battled back in the second set, taking Payton Dugan to 12 games before falling, 7-5. First-year Reese McFarland played solid at sixth singles against the Chargers' Callie Valleri, but Valleri was able to get the best of the New Hampshire native winning in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Simmons returns to the courts on Wednesday, September 11 when they host non-conference Emerson College at Daly Field at 4 p.m.
