BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (0-4) fell to Brandeis University (3-1) in non-conference playing, 3-1, on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Simmons 25, Brandeis 23
After third year Head Coach Pat Helmas called his first timeout midway through the first set, the Sharks went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-12 lead and they never looked back. The Judges inched closer, pulling to within two late, but were unable to pull closer.

Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton posted a .273 attack percentage, tallying five kills on 11 attempts. Senior Meghan Doxsee was flawless from the floor registering two kills on five attempts, while sophomore Hannah Pridgeon added a pair of kills of her own.

Set 2: Brandeis 25, Simmons 12
In the second set, Brandeis took an early 6-1 lead before the Sharks were forced to call their first time out of the set. Following the opportunity to re-group, Simmons rallied back and with a 6-0 run tie the match at six. However, the Judges picked up momentum, utilizing a 12-1 run midway through the set to even up the match at one game.

Set 3: Brandeis 25, Simmons 17

Set 4: Brandeis 25, Simmons 19
Brandeis remained in control of the game at the start of the fourth set, jumping out to a 13-9 lead before Simmons was called the first time out of the game. But the Sharks remained resilient and did not back down.

Trailing by six, 15-9, Simmons pulled to within two points of the lead following back-to-back-to-back kills by junior Kate Petrosso, graduate senior April Beatty and Chatterton, forcing the Judges to call their first timeout. However, it did not affect the Sharks momentum as they kept the pressure and tied up the match.

It appeared as momentum was swinging over to the Shark bench as Simmons jumped ahead, 19-17 taking advantage of a couple mistakes. But the Judges answered, rattling off the next eight points to take the fourth set and the match, 25-19.
