No. 6 Sharks Cap Off Season In GNAC Quarters Against No. 3 Monks

STANDISH, Maine – The No. 6 ranked Simmons University Sharks hit the road tonight for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals against the No. 3 seeded Saint Joseph College (SJC) Monks. Simmons bolted out of the gates to take the first frame before the home team mounted a comeback to come out with the 3-1 win to advance.

How It Happened
  • Simmons orchestrated an 8-1 run to put the Sharks out on front, 10-5, forcing the home team to call an early unexpected timeout. SJC continued to remain behind, but were able to close the gap to two points (22-20). However, Hannah Pridgeon and Kate Petrosso answered back with a pair of kills before Petrosso recorded a monstrous block to win it, 25-20.
  • The home team regrouped in the next set, holding the slight edge before pulling away late to even out the score at 1-1 (25-18).
  • Locked up at 15-all, Simmons went ahead before the home team used the home court advantage to come right back to tie up the scoreboard once again. The Monks were able to sneak away with the 25-23 win to lead, 2-1 overall.
  • In similar fashion to the first three sets, the Sharks and Monks went shot for shot for the majority of the fourth. However, SJC began to widen the gap with 10 points to go en route to the 25-18 win (3-1).
