PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior right-hander
Piper Kinney tossed two complete game shutouts as Simmons softball (20-21) keeps their hopes of a third GNAC title alive with a pair of wins against Regis College and Emmanuel College on Saturday.
GAME 1: SIMMONS 5, REGIS 0
Kinney was in complete control from start to finish, tossing a complete-game shutout. The Marlborough, Massachusetts struck out 13 batters, walked just one, and scattered three hits over seven innings to earn her 13th win of the season. Her dominant outing set the tone for Simmons, keeping Regis off balance and off the scoreboard throughout.
The Sharks broke the game open in the fourth inning. First-year
Zoe Soule launched a solo home run to give Simmons a 1–0 lead. The momentum continued as
Leah Berdeen came through with a clutch two-run double later in the inning, stretching the lead to 3–0. Simmons added two more runs in the fifth when junior
Trinity Payne ripped a two-run single to center, pushing the advantage to 5–0.
GAME 2: SIMMONS 1, EMMANUEL 0
Kinney pitched another masterful performance in game two. Tossing a complete-game shutout, Kinney allowed only hits, while striking out 11 Saints to earn her 14
th win of the season. Kinney's dominance on the mound was instrumental in keeping the Saints' offense at bay throughout the game.
The game's sole run came in the bottom of the third inning. Junior
Raya Anderson led off with a single and later scored when junior
Teagan Buckley ripped an RBI single to center field, advancing to second on the throw. This timely hit provided the Sharks with the lead they would maintain for the remainder of the game.
Offensively, Simmons recorded five hits, with Anderson contributing two of them. The team's defense was flawless, committing no errors and effectively supporting Kinney's exceptional pitching performance.

- Senior Leah Berdeen went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
- Junior Ally Hyde and senior Raya Anderson both went 3-for-6 at the plate, while Anderson scored two runs for the Sharks.
- Junior Teagan Buckley drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the third against Emmanuel.

Simmons will play the GNAC South top seed Johnson & Wales tomorrow, Sunday May 4 in the Pod Finals. The Sharks will need to win two game against the Wildcats. First pitch at 2 p.m.
