PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 2025 season came to a close for Simmons softball (20-22) as they fell to GNAC South top seed in the Pod B finals on Sunday afternoon.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, but JWU broke the tie in the fourth with a two-run double by Jessica Forneiro. In the seventh inning, JWU extended their lead with a sacrifice fly from Amanda Madigan and a three-run homer by Mady Lyons, bringing the score to 6–0.
Simmons mounted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Ella Donovan again, narrowing the gap to 6–2. However, the comeback fell short.
Kinney pitched a complete game for Simmons, allowing six runs, only four earned, on eight hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Offensively, Simmons managed six hits, with contributions from Kinney,
Ally Hyde,
Trinity Payne,
Leah Berdeen, and
Zoe Soule.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Piper Kinney went seven innings allowing six runs, only four earned, while striking out seven Wildcats.
- Kinney helped her own cause at the place going 2-fo-3 with an RBI.
- First-year Zoe Soule, junior Ally Hyde, junior Trinity Payne and senior Leah Berdeen all went 1-for-3 at the plate.
