BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Simmons University Soccer traveled down to the Cape Cod Canal to take on the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy (MMA) where the Sharks earned their first victory of the season by shutting out their hosts, 3-0.

How It Happened

• The Sharks immediately put pressure on MMA's defense, firing off seven straight shots before rookie Ella Askren sent a shot into the back netting to put the visitors on top, 1-0 in the 26th minute. The Buccaneers were able to muster up four total shots down the stretch with keeper Mikaela Marie Javar collecting three saves to keep the home team at bay. With just two seconds left in the first half, Lauren Krupnikoff made it a 2-0 game with her first tally of the season.
• In the second half, Simmons' offensive mindset was on full display, putting up 11 shots before Askren picked up a rebounded shot from teammate Grace Nostrant and tucked it in past the keeper to extend their lead to 3-0. The Sharks contained the Buccaneers to just two shots in the final 45 minutes of action to come out with the 3-0 win.

• Tonight's match-up marks the first ever meeting between the two squads.
• First year, Ella Askren registered her first collegiate goal this evening as well as her first career two-goal game.
• Grace Nostrant dished out her first career assist tonight. 
• Simmons' 3-0 win is the largest margin of victory in a shutout since they blanked Rivier by a 3-0 score in 2019.
• The Sharks return to play this Saturday, September 6 for their home-opener to take on the Warriors of Eastern Conn. State at 1 p.m. on Daly Field.
