BRIGHTON, Mass. – Hosting the Blue Jays of the University of St. Joseph today, the Simmons Univeristy Sharks took the early lead before the Blue Jays forced a comeback, but the home team prevailed in a thrilling 4-3 victory.
How It Happened
- Coming out strong in doubles play, Emilie Lapointe and Masha Shutts were the first court completed as they doubled up their counterparts, 6-3. The visitors were able to snag a win on the No. 3 court, but the home team prevailed in a thrilling 7-6 victory to seal the double's point.
- In singles play, No. 3 Amoli Vad picked up the first victory in singles by taking down her opponent, 6-1, 6-2. Lapointe picked up the baton to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team in No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-0). The visitors snagged wins on the No. 6, No. 5, and No. 4 courts to lock the score up at 3-3. Winning in dramatic fashion was Shutts who took the first set 7-5 because edging her No. 1 opponent 7-6 (7-4) to seal the deal for the Sharks.Â
