Sharks Survive Late Charger Rally

BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons University Volleyball welcomed the Colby-Sawyer College (CSC) Chargers at the Holmes Center for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action where the Sharks bested the Chargers, 3-2.

How It Happened
  • Simmons found themselves up 17-7 in the opening frame before being within one point from winning the set (24-13). CSC rallied to put down seven straight points, but it wasn't enough as Simmons went on top, 1-0 with their 25-20 win.
  • Both sides went shot for shot in the second with neither team pulling ahead comfortably. With Simmons up, 19-17, the Sharks scored four straight to begin to pull away en route to the 25-19 victory (2-0).
  • In the third, Simmons was in control early before the Chargers flipped the script to go on an 8-0 run and lead, 16-12. The Sharks continued to fight, tying it up at 19-19 but the visitors closed it out by a score of 25-19.
  • CSC orchestrated their largest run of the evening (10-0) to spark a fourth set win, 25-23.
  • The Sharks raced out to a 7-3 lead in the fifth set, but the Chargers roared back to take an 8-7 advantage. The scoreboard was locked up twice more before the home team prevailed, 15-12.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Emily Ibarra matched her career-high with 14 digs. 
  • Addison Evans registered double-digit kills in two straight games.
  • Simmons has now defeated the Chargers in seven consecutive meetings.
  • The Sharks are on the road on Saturday, October 3 to play the New England College Pilgrims on their home court.
