Sharks Fly Past Blue Jays On Senior Day In 3-1 Victory

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Simmons University Field Hockey team stepped onto Daly Field today for its final home game of the regular season, celebrating Senior Day against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) Blue Jays (USJ) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The Sharks broke through in the third quarter and continued to build their lead, earning a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

How It Happened
  • From the opening whistle, Simmons asserted control, earning nine penalty corners in the first quarter alone and firing off 12 shots. However, the USJ defense was able to withstand the persistent attack and keep the scoreboard empty after one quarter of play.
  • The teams were nearly even statistically in the second quarter, recording two saves and earning two penalty corners apiece to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
  • Following a penalty corner in the 33rd minute, the Sharks continued to pressure the Blue Jays' defense and broke through with a goal from Nora Desrosiers, assisted by Kaitlyn Frye, to take a 1-0 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
  • Looking to extend their lead, Katy Paveglio fired in a feed from Desrosiers to make it 2-0. Five minutes later, USJ got on the board to cut the deficit in half. In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Lilly Taglieri rocketed a shot from just inside the circle into the back of the net to seal the victory for the Sharks before the final horn sounded.
