Simmons University

NEWTON, Mass. – Simmons University Field Hockey continued its road stint tonight in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action against Lasell University. The Sharks battled back to even the score late in regulation before Hailey Brisson netted the overtime winner to secure a 2-1 victory.

How It Happened

• Lasell opened the contest on the offensive, but the Simmons defense held steady as Jamila Mohamed made a pair of saves to keep the Lasers off the board. The Sharks returned the favor with a more spread-out attack of their own, but neither side was able to strike first in the opening quarter.
• Simmons recorded the only two shots of the second quarter, but the game remained scoreless heading into halftime.
• Midway through the third quarter, Lasell found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
• With just over two minutes remaining in regulation, senior Lilly Taglieri stepped up to take a penalty stroke and delivered, tying the game at 1-1 to force overtime.
• The Lasers opened overtime with a penalty corner and a shot, but the Sharks stood tall defensively to regain possession and shift the momentum. Following a Simmons penalty corner taken by Nora Desrosiers, the ball found Alex Wemple off the corner before Hailey Brisson fired a shot past the keeper to seal the 2-1 overtime win for the Sharks.

• Jamila Mohamed picked up her second victory of the season in goal with her outstanding performance tonight.
• Lilly Taglieri is now a perfect 2-2 on penalty strokes this season.
• Hailey Brisson netted her second game-winner of the season and has now scored in back-to-back games.
• The Sharks travel to N.H. this weekend to play the Colby-Sawyer Chargers on Saturday, October 17.
