Sharks Score In 86th Minute To Earn 1-1 Draw With Saint Joseph's

BRIGHTON, Mass. – After a three-game road stretch, the Simmons University Soccer team returned home to Daly Field tonight and battled Saint Joseph's College (Maine) (SJC) to a 1-1 draw in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

How It Happened
  • The Sharks came out aggressive, earning a corner kick just over a minute into the match before firing off a pair of shots, but the Monks were able to keep the game scoreless. Both sides traded chances throughout the opening half, with SJC holding a slight edge in opportunities. However, Mikaela Marie Javar and the Simmons defense stood strong to send the game into halftime tied 0-0.
  • Much like the first half, Simmons earned a corner kick within the opening minute of the second half but was unable to capitalize. Saint Joseph's generated five shots over the next 10 minutes, putting two on target, but Javar turned them aside. The Monks broke through in the 72nd minute when a curling shot that no one could reach, found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Sharks continued to press forward and were rewarded in the 86th minute. Peyton Renzie played a ball ahead to Emma McEwan, who raced onto it and fired home the equalizer. In the closing seconds, it appeared Simmons had been awarded a penalty kick, but play was waved off as the final whistle sounded, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
Beyond The Box Score
