BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons University Track & Field delivered a strong showing at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Boston University. The Sharks earned a pair of podium finishes and also set three school records.
- Jaden Johnson led the way in the 5,000m, crossing the line in 19:32.78 to break her own school record by 10 seconds. Johnson earned silver with her second-place finish.
- In the 60m dash, Isatu Fofanah (8.25) and Talya Mendez-DeGraw (8.54) both qualified for the finals. Competing in her first race of the season, Mendez-DeGraw advanced to the final and placed sixth overall in 8.53. Fofanah improved her time to 8.23 in the final to secure third place and a bronze medal.
- Jayla James qualified for the 60m hurdles final with a record-breaking time of 10.62, setting a new school record in the prelims. Isabel Deptula narrowly missed advancing, finishing 10th overall in 10.77. In the final, James placed eighth with a time of 11.10.
- In the mile, Beth Pennington surged over the final stretch to post a massive personal record of 7:12.10, shaving 17 seconds off her previous best.
- Fofanah returned in the 200m to place 11th in 28.51, followed by Vanenzya Enriquez in 12th at 29.25.
- Simmons competed in the 4x400m relay, where Deptula, Enriquez, Julia Pellegrino, and Trinity Williamson combined for a fifth-place finish in 4:41.11.
- The distance medley relay team of Charlotte Shaw, Carolyn Dorman, Hannah Bergeron, and Johnson closed out the championship by clocking 14:11.11 to break the school record, previously set one year ago, by five seconds. The quartet finished fourth overall.
The New England DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Sunday, March 1.
